There is a lot more to the island than this. If you like the idea of getting out and about in the fresh air, make sure you consider getting around the island on foot.

Rhodes has some lovely walks in store for you if you want to take them; if you pack some walking gear into your suitcase as well as stuff for the beach, you will be prepared for all eventualities.

One thing you should really do before heading out to Rhodes is a bit of research. If you have already booked your holiday take the time to find out more about the local area. You can try and plan a few walks before you leave, to save time once you arrive. In contrast if you are still looking to book your holiday you may be able to book an apartment or hotel room somewhere near a prime place for walks. In either case you can have some idea of what to expect once you get there.

Walks in Rhodes also give you the opportunity to get away from the cities and towns for a while. You can explore a different side of Rhodes. For example Tsambika Beach promises a path that leads you all the way up to the Tsambika Monastery. The walk may be something of a challenge but you will see some superb views once you reach the monastery itself.

Elsewhere you could opt to get away from the beaches and move towards the forests and mountains instead. Mount Profitis Ilias is more of a challenge if you prefer a longer walk that takes you into the mountainous part of Rhodes. You may be surprised at how different this part of Rhodes actually is if you have only ever stayed in the coastal regions.

So you can see that walking around on the island promises to be a wonderfully involving activity. Whatever you think of Rhodes now, your opinion may be changed for the better once you tackle some walks there.

Is Peace and Quiet Possible in Rhodes?

Well it is a good question isn’t it? After all this is known as something of a holiday island, where you can always have a good time no matter what time of the day or night it happens to be.

But you should remember one distinct thing about Rhodes and the many popular places you will find there. For starters you are bound to hear about the most popular destinations people go to, simply because more people have been there and thus know a lot about them. But it should always be remembered that other places exist on this island too – places that do not grab the headlines, and are therefore often even more appealing because of it.

Take Kolymbia for example – or as it is sometimes also known, Kolympia. This is situated on the eastern side of Rhodes, and it is certainly a more low key resort. You can expect to find plenty here to appreciate, and there are good facilities too. What you won’t find are huge amounts of people – and for many this is the biggest reason why it is worth going to Kolymbia in the first place. Not everyone wants a vibrant and lively kind of holiday in Rhodes – some simply want to enjoy the surroundings with their family and relax in the process.

Indeed Kolymbia is known for being a family friendly location on Rhodes. It is very peaceful and has a nice selection of hotels in the area that you can stay in. It is also known for being a very green area, so if the natural world appeals to you (alongside the beach of course) then this could be just the ticket.

One of the big pluses of the beach at Kolymbia is that it is situated in a bay. This protects it somewhat from the more active seas around it, and provides another plus point for people and families looking for calmer waters.

All in all Kolymbia may not be the most famous resort in Rhodes, but it is certainly one of the most peaceful. Would that appeal to you as well?

The Avenue Of The Knights

If you are heading for Rhodes in the near future and you happen to speak with anyone who has already been there, be prepared to hear a lot about the Old Town. This is as much a part of Rhodes as the Acropolis and the Colossus are (or were in the past).

One integral part of the Old Town is the so called Avenue of the Knights. This is more commonly known today as Ipoton Street, but somehow Avenue of the Knights sounds more dramatic and indeed romantic as well. The knights of old once lived here and so the street is often named after them. The avenue runs from the east to the west of the Old Town, and it is quite amazing to look at.

It could be said to be quite plain in some ways; there are doorways and windows peppering its length on both sides, and it is paved with cobbles from top to bottom. But for all its plainness it is also quite striking and indicative of a time in history in this part of Rhodes that is long since gone. It has been restored in the past, around a century ago, and as such it really doesn’t look a lot different at the beginning of the 21st century than it did at the turn of the 20th century.

Modern businesses and offices now take up much of the Avenue of the Knights, but you would not realise this to look at it from the exterior. It is this eerie and forbidding tone of the street that makes it a must see for anyone visiting Rhodes and the Old Town. You would be amazed at how striking it is in person and in photos, and you will definitely want to take plenty of those.

Of course you have the rest of the Old Town to explore as well, and you should certainly make the effort to do so. But this is going to be just one part of your trip to the town – and walking up the Avenue of the Kings to reach it is the best way to make its acquaintance.

Rhodes – Ancient or Modern?

Rhodes is well known as a Greek island with a history that stretches back for thousands of years. There is ample evidence that the island was inhabited back in Neolithic times (basically that means a long, long time ago, for those people who are not familiar with their ancient history).

This brings forward an interesting point of view to remember whenever you are thinking of booking a trip to Rhodes. There is now a wonderful combination of ancient and modern sights on the island and it is up to you how many sights of each type you want to see.

Some people undoubtedly visit Rhodes to enjoy their clubs, bars and restaurants. You will no doubt want to enjoy a taste of one or more of these yourself, depending on the kind of holiday you have in mind. Modern Rhodes is well known for its tourism and it caters extremely well for people in this respect.

But the truth is that wherever you go in Rhodes there are signs of the ancient times still there to see. It is unfortunate that an earthquake back in 226BC was responsible for felling the great Colossus of Rhodes – an icon that was known to be one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World. It is thought that the entrance to the harbour is where the Colossus once stood, although no one can be sure of this. You can go there and see the platform on either side of the entrance though, and wonder whether it did once stand there long before you or I even existed.

The ruins of Kameiros also hark back to times long before we existed. This site dates back to the Bronze Age so again you will have a chance to look back at another portion of history.

In a sense Rhodes is a living history lesson. There is so much here to see and appreciate about the island in centuries gone by. It would be a shame not to see at least some of it while you are there on holiday. You might go home with a whole new appreciation of Rhodes.

Moving Away From The Obvious – And Heading Towards Soroni

There are many well known sights in Rhodes. Indeed one of the most famous of all isn’t even there any more – the Colossus of Rhodes is thought to have stood at the entrance to the harbour in ancient times.

But Rhodes has plenty more to show you as well. It has many delightful locations that are not as well known to tourists as the more obvious ones are. For instance there is a small village called Soroni that clings to the north western shores of the island, and while few holidaymakers would think to go there, the ones that do are captivated by its charm.

But this is the beauty of Soroni – its resistance to modern tourism and its determination to hang onto everything that makes it so appealing. You won’t find yourself short of facilities if you go there to explore, but it doesn’t have the same touristic feel as many other spots on Rhodes do.

You’ll find one or two taverns here to try out, but not lots of them. There is also a nice beach but it won’t be the biggest one you will see on the island. However this is no bad thing since the village is not that busy most of the time. If you are looking for somewhere quiet to relax while you are in Rhodes – even if it is just for a day or two – you can do little better than to visit Soroni.

The best time to see the village is definitely during the summer months as the water can be very cold as the seasons move on. The other thing to bear in mind is that the beach is largely pebbly as well as having sand, so it isn’t ideal for young children. This would be a good thing if you want some peace and quiet on your own however!

Soroni is a classic example of the different side of Rhodes. Just because certain venues draw all the attention every summer, it doesn’t mean the rest of the island is not worth seeing.

Reasons To Visit Afandou In Rhodes

It doesn’t matter where you decide to go on holiday – you will always find reasons for choosing that particular place.

For instance you have the option of choosing a busy location that is known for its nightlife. There are certainly many of those in Greece. But there are also plenty of places you can go to for a quieter kind of holiday, if that is what you want.

Take Afandou in Rhodes for example. This is a village with just a few thousand regular inhabitants, and yet it is the only village on the whole island that has a golf course. This means that golfers wanting to play a round or two while they are on holiday need to head for Afandou or wait until they get home to play.

The village itself may be quiet but it is no less charming for this. In fact if you find the noise and bar atmosphere of the more popular spots in Rhodes is too much, Afandou will make a nice change from this.

Afandou is on the eastern side of the island, and the word itself comes from the Greek word for invisible. The village was so named because you could not see the location from the sea. It has an ancient history and pirates used to come ashore here many years ago. You may think that with such a small population it is not very self sufficient, but this is not the case.

Instead you would be able to enjoy a completely isolated and very relaxing holiday here if you wish. You can wander among the streets, take a look at the local church and definitely make a beeline for the beach. In fact for such a small village the beach is quite large. Unlike the larger resorts you should not have any problems finding a spot to yourself.

Afandou certainly has a lot to commend it and you will not be bored here unless you happen to prefer a livelier spot for a holiday. Be sure to explore the village and the surrounding area as much as you can – you will be amazed at what you will discover.

Go To The Best Beach On Rhodes

Lots of people come to Rhodes because of its beaches. There are other reasons too of course, but this is undoubtedly one of the main attractions. And one of the most popular beaches of all on the island is Faliraki Beach. Before you book your holiday in Rhodes it will pay dividends to find out why.

Faliraki is situated on the north eastern end of the island. It is the most popular beach the island has and because of this it is very well set up for tourists in lots of different ways. For example if you love your water sports just as much as you love lazing around on the beach, you will feel right at home here. With windsurfing and jet skiing available among other things, you will love every minute of your time on the beach and beyond it.

It’s also a nice place to go if you simply love to sunbathe. As you might expect from the best beach on the island, you’ll have sun beds and umbrellas to hire if you need them. Arriving earlier in the day will net you a great spot for the day, but wherever you end up staking out your spot you won’t be far from beach bars and food places to grab a bite to eat at lunch time.

You can expect it to get noisier and livelier when the sun goes down though, as this is a key area for partying the night away as well. If you are visiting with a young family you should think about staying somewhere slightly further out of town, to ensure you get a quieter evening if you want it.

If you are part of a couple and you want somewhere where you can enjoy a nice romantic meal in the evening, Faliraki is ideal for this too. Not every establishment is of the loud and raucous variety, so you won’t be disappointed if it is a romantic holiday you are after.

In short, you can’t really go wrong when you elect to stay in or near Faliraki. It has everything you could ever wish for.

Can You Still See Ancient Kamiros Today?

Whenever you visit any part of Greece you know you are in with a chance of seeing some ancient ruins or signs that many other people have been there centuries before you.

This is indeed the case when you visit Rhodes. One of the most fascinating sights of all is probably not the best known. We’re talking about ancient Kamiros – and yes, you can still see a lot of the ancient signs of life today.

This was a major force in Rhodes in ancient times and although only ruins are left today, it is easy to imagine what it would have been like in times gone by. The amazing thing is that you can see lots of foundations and lower levels of walls and outlines of buildings here. These enable you to build the rest up in your mind, and walk along the same paths that were used by ancient peoples living in Rhodes.

You will find Kamiros on the north western shores of Rhodes. The high times of Kamiros were back in the 6th century, when it even had its own currency. Over time though things changed, and it was not the success it had once been. The place was abandoned and left to go to ruin, eventually being covered and forgotten as the centuries gathered pace.

It would not be until 1929 that Kamiros was uncovered once more, and although it took several years archaeologists were able to eventually reveal the remains of Kamiros to the world. Their painstaking work, care and attention have made it possible to see what it would have been like to live here.

You will certainly be amazed at the scale of the ruins you will find. Some pillars remain in areas, but in others nothing more than a few levels of stone are there to indicate where walls and windows would once have been. You can imagine what it would have been like to live there all those centuries ago, making olive oil and trading figs in a bustling marketplace.

Kamiros may not be the successful and thriving town it once was, but it still has a lot to show and tell us.

Visiting The Kalithea Springs Of Rhodes

There are many areas in Rhodes that are worth visiting, and one of them must surely be the Kalithea Springs. These are quite famous on the island and have a long history you are sure to find interesting.

The original opening of the springs took place way back in 1929, and since then they have been enjoyed by lots of people from many countries. Those in Rhodes certainly know the history and the value of the springs, and they are an important tourist attraction for those visiting the island every year.

The springs were thought to be beneficial in helping to alleviate the symptoms of many physical ailments. They were used by many people who were hoping to find a natural remedy for some kind of medical problem. Today they don’t work any more but the springs have been regenerated and worked on to provide an incredibly attractive monument to visit. The circular building has white washed walls and a mosaic floor that is quite stunning to see.

The pattern of the floor fits in nicely with the circular building, and as you look closer you will see just how many pebbles there are which go to make up the total design. It is really quite something to see.

Even though the springs themselves are no longer available to bathe in, you are not far from the sea and the delightful beach you will find there. There is a small beach right below the baths that you can bathe in if you wish, and it is often used by people who are visiting the area. This is essentially a rocky cove that offers some good opportunities to swim and snorkel, and you will be rewarded with seeing lots of fish and other delights beneath the waves too.

Even though the Kalithea Springs are no longer in operation, you will still benefit from seeing them as they are quite spectacular to look at. Grab your camera and commit some of it to more than just your memory, as it really is quite an amazing area to visit.

Filerimos Hill – Offering A Superb View Of Rhodes

Wherever you choose to go on holiday you should always try and find a high point to see some of your surroundings in more detail. One such point to visit in Rhodes is undoubtedly Filerimos Hill. This is popular among tourists and it offers more than just good views as well.

Ialysos was an ancient town that once stood where Filerimos Hill is now, and in this area some ancient finds have been discovered in the past. You will want to see the monastery here as Mycenaean pottery has been discovered here in the past. You simply never know what is under your feet as you make your way up the hill to the top.

As with many other locations in Greece, Rhodes offers a great insight into Greek history, and Filerimos Hill is no exception. The hill itself is somewhat unusual because it does not have a peak. This means that once you have walked to the top you will think you are standing in a field rather than on top of a hill. The flat surface gives you plenty of room to lie back and relax after your trek to the top, and you can also see many of the sights that you may have passed on the way up.

In fact once you are at the top you may well see the tree lined path that you can walk along on the way back if you didn’t find it before. This connects the monastery with a square, which in itself provides a nice landmark to see.

Be sure to take your camera with you when you head out to Filerimos Hill. It is some kilometres from Rhodes Town but the trip is certainly worth it. If you want a change from the beach and you want to discover a little more about some of Rhodes’ history, Filerimos Hill is an ideal place to do it. Take photos of the route you took to climb the hill, and then relax before heading back down it again. This is certainly a highlight of the island, no matter what time of year you happen to visit.

Visiting Lindos

Regardless of whether you have visited Rhodes yet or not, you may have heard of Lindos. This is a town on the island that is quite well known, not least for its beauty and stunning scenery. So whether you stay in the area or not, you should certainly add it to your list of places to visit while you are in Rhodes.

Some people compare Lindos to an amphitheatre. When you see the village for yourself it is easy to see why this belief has come about. Indeed there is a lot of truth in the belief. An amphitheatre is built with each successive row of seats rising higher behind the ones in front. This stepped format has been brought into play in Lindos as well, and it works like a charm.

Most of the buildings are whitewashed in that wonderful Greek way, and as you explore the alleys and paths which lead between and around them you will always find yourself stumbling on something new. Simply wandering and exploring are two of the best things to do in Lindos, as well as discovering new scenery and places to sit and grab a drink and perhaps a snack while you are in town as well.

Some of the narrow alleyways are stepped to make the climb slightly easier. Some of them also have stalls set out on these steps where you can look at wares made by the locals. Make sure you explore these stalls thoroughly if you want to take home something authentic to remind you of your time in Rhodes. Pictures, jewellery and clothing can all be found here, and you will delight in everything you see because you won’t quite know what is coming next.

Don’t spend all your time in the town itself though. The Lindos Acropolis is nearby too, and you cannot miss where it is since it towers above the town itself. It affords you a fantastic view and you cannot help but appreciate the sights here that have been standing since the year 300 BC. This is truly a delightful town and a delightful day out – no matter where you are staying.

Witness The Acropolis Of Rhodes

Whenever you think of Greece you probably think of ancient ruins at some point. Greece and the Greek islands are so full of ancient sights of all kinds that you cannot fail to see at least some wherever you head to on holiday.

When it comes to Rhodes the Acropolis is the best sight to witness. This is an ancient ruin that dates from the 3rd to 2nd century BC. While it no longer stands in splendour as it once did, it is still worth paying a visit to see what remains of it.

The word acropolis itself is a Greek term meaning the centre of the city. It can also be translated to mean the highest point in a city. In either case it is regarded as a key area – although today it stands more as a notable tourist attraction and a reminder of the ancient past more than anything else.

So what can you see in the Acropolis of Rhodes?

The Temple of Apollo is one of the major sights you can view here, although all that remains are some ruins. Much of the structure is long since gone. You can still see three virtually intact pillars however, which form one of the corners of what used to be the temple. A fourth partially destroyed pillar stands next to this group. There are a few blocks on top of the three large pillars but the remainder of the blocks can only be seen on ground level. There is enough to give you an idea of what once stood here however.

Elsewhere you can also see the remains of an ancient theatre. And with the Temple of Athena Polias – or what is left of it – also here to view, you can see it is well worth a trip to this particular remnant of ancient Greece.

The two temples are situated quite a way from each other within the area of the acropolis. A stadium can be found next to the Temple of Apollo and a gymnasium is on the other side of that. As you can see, the ancient Greeks certainly liked their landmarks.

Which Rhodes Beach Will Suit You Best?

Rhodes is one of those islands where you are spoilt for choice when it comes to finding a good beach to spend the day on. There are many different types of beaches to enjoy here, so if you think they have all been created the same, think again.

First of all you will of course get a completely different view from each of them. You may be surrounded by sand, sea and sky on every occasion but their unique properties differ from beach to beach. This makes it a good idea to think about visiting more than one beach during your time on Rhodes.

For example why not make a start on Afandou beach? This is popular for two main reasons. Firstly it holds the title of being the longest beach on Rhodes, and secondly despite the first fact it doesn’t actually get overly crowded no matter when you visit. As such it is perfect if you want a quiet sandy spot to lie back and relax in.

But just because Afandou beach is quiet, don’t make the mistake of thinking it doesn’t have a lot to offer other than sand. In this case you will find various places to eat and drink throughout the day. So you could end your time on the beach by having dinner in a local restaurant before heading back to your accommodation.

Elsewhere you have Kalithea beach, and the fact that this is the beach which attracts the locals should tell you something about what to expect. One of the best bits about this beach is the water it invites you into. The shape of the coast bends in here and provides an inlet where there are no waves to knock you off your feet. It is quite shallow and perfect if you have children who want to enjoy the water.

There are lots of other beaches around Rhodes as well. Faliraki beach is well known as one of the most popular of all, but you will also get the crowds here. Whatever you want from a beach you are sure to find it in Rhodes.

Where Did The Fallen Colossus Stand?

Every holiday destination has several places that you simply can’t miss out on while you are there. When it comes to Rhodes you must visit Mandraki Harbour – the place where the famous Colossus of Rhodes was believed to have stood all those centuries ago.

But while the Colossus is long since gone – believed fallen in an ancient earthquake – the harbour itself still remains. And it is a wonderful sight too. If you fancy spending a nice peaceful day wandering around and taking in all the sights, Mandraki Harbour is a wonderful place to go.

Take a look at all the small boats bobbing around on the water. If you like the idea of a scenic boat trip to enable you to see Rhodes and its harbour from the water, you won’t have to look very far. In fact the chances are good that boat owners will offer their services to you as you wander along the harbour wall. Make sure you pick a popular trip that is already attracting a lot of tourists.

You may not be able to see the Colossus of Rhodes any more, but the spot it was thought to have occupied now has two deer instead. These are statues of course, and if the Colossus did exist at the mouth of the harbour it would have had a foot planted in each of the very positions the deer now take up. They are much smaller than the Colossus would have been, but they are still worth a look as you explore the harbour itself.

If all this exploring makes you tired and hungry, don’t worry – there is a market directly opposite the harbour which offers you sustenance when you need it. For example you can grab a quick snack here or something more filling. You could even go shopping for some local produce to take back to your accommodation so you can cook a nice fresh meal in the evening too.

Whatever you decide to do at Mandraki Harbour, you’ll be glad you paid it a visit. But you might be surprised at what you can find there.

The Valley of the Butterflies is one of the most popular inland destinations to visit on the island. Located in Petaloudes, you can explore a gorge that plays host to many butterflies each year. While this is a stunning sight and one that is not to be missed, you should respect your surroundings while you are there. Disturbing them is never a good idea and it may get you into trouble.

This woodland walk takes you through the gorge and along pathways and trails through the trees. There is also a river running through the area, so you will be treated to sights of the river trickling through the surroundings and into the pond at the bottom.

Small waterfalls and manmade bridges are there to be enjoyed just as much as the butterflies, although clearly they are still the main attraction here. If you are finding the sun a bit much you can also enjoy some shade underneath the many trees in the Valley of the Butterflies. And if you want to stop for a drink or a bite to eat, there are facilities to enable you to do this as well.

It is generally agreed that the Valley of the Butterflies is one of the most stunning areas on the whole island. No holiday to Rhodes would be complete without visiting it, and since it is only a few short kilometres from the airport it doesn’t matter where you are staying on the island. A trip to the valley is definitely advisable at some point during your stay.

August is a great time to visit as well, since this is when all the butterflies converge on the valley. They do this because it is an area they traditionally reproduce in. As such, if you visit during August you can expect to be treated to the sight of thousands of butterflies – but be patient and quiet if you want to see as many as possible.

Rhodes Wedding Holiday Website Launches

Britons keen on avoiding the changeable British weather and thinking of getting married abroad are being offered comprehensive wedding packages on the Greek island of Rhodes with a new website.

www.uniqueweddingsrhodes.co.uk is aimed at giving couples a wide range of wedding possibilities on the island, from traditional locations to more unusual options such as exchanging vows on a boat or holding your wedding at one of Rhodes' visitor attractions.

Through the website holidaymakers can have many of the arrangements for the big day taken care of, from catering and flowers to all the legal requirements and necessary documents, with extras such as hen or stag parties, honeymoons and pre-ceremony beauty treatments also available.

Rhodes has 300 days of sunshine a year, a number of five-star places to stay as well as many locations ideal for weddings.

For general information about Rhodes, including accommodation listings visit www.rodosisland.gr

Haraki (Charaki)

Distance from Rhodes City: 36Km

The sight of children searching for shells among the pebbles, couples gazing out to sea from the alconies of their rented rooms, sun-burned mothers wheeling push-chairs up and down - this attractive little bay definetly offers a family atmosphere.

Most hotels are located along the sea. Outside of Athens, Rhodes claims one of the most active nighttime scenes in Greece. Granted, some of that energy is grounded in the resort complexes north of the city, but there is enough to go around.Your own good sense is as good a guide as any in this ever-changing scene. In a city as compact as Rhodes, it's best to follow the lights and noise, not worrying about getting a little lost. When you decide to call it quits, shout down a taxi to bring you back, if you can remember where you're staying.

As a rule of thumb, the New Town is more lively than the Old Town. In the New Town, several cafe scenes are on the harbor, behind Academy Square, or on Odos Galias, near New Market. The bar scene tends to line up along Odos Diakonou. There are at least 100 nightclubs on Rhodes, so you're sure to find one to your liking. Complicating matters is a recent announcement that the police, after countless complaints of noise and mayhem until all hours, have decided to designate one area of the city for discos and bars, enabling them to stay open until whenever. When this area will be designated and where it will be is anyone's guess.

Art Student Receives Archer Award for Creativity

Memphis, Tenn. (June 13, 2005) - archer malmo awarded the Louise and Ward Archer Sr. Award for Creativity to Rhodes College student Lynsey Major on April 29. Elated and grateful for the 2,500 dollars cash award and paid summer internship provided by the Archer Grant, Major said she is proud to be among the former winners of this award and to be working with the archer malmo team.

After completing the summer internship, Major will begin her Junior year at Rhodes in the fall. She has previously completed the Memphis College of Art AP program and has studied at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

The Archer Award honors a student whose work is an expression of creativity in the liberal arts and sciences at Rhodes College. This prestigious honor is given to creative thinkers like Major, who have demonstrated creativity through an academic endeavor within the educational program of the college or in the extracurricular world.

'First of all, she's an excellent artist,' said Ward Archer, Jr., chairman emeritus of archer malmo and now owner of Archer Records. 'But she also has a very keen sense of the power of the written word. She could be creatively 'dangerous.'

Mary Caywood, executive vice president and principal of archer malmo, added, 'Lynsey's inspiring talent demonstrates that she has taken on her own style, using her creativity with purpose and conviction.'

From teaching art at her church to volunteering at the Germantown Community Theater to serving as a publicist for Pride magazine, Major says she tries to use her talents in the arts to the fullest.'

I am very excited to be awarded this generous opportunity from archer malmo,' Major said. 'The internship will be a profitable learning experience.'

About Lindos

Many holidaymakers to Rhodes choose Lindos as their destination of choice. Lindos was once the capital of Rhodes and is only 29 miles from the current island capital. Lindos is now a stunning holiday resort centred upon a small medieval village and topped with a fortified ancient Acropolis as well as a host of other ancient sights to visit.

The village itself is a maze of attractive cobbled streets and small white houses sloping down to the sea. Lindos offers not only a wealth of history but a more traditional choice of the many Greek resorts.

When to Travel

Lindos is a popular destination throughout the summer months, offering sunshine through May to October. Open most holiday brochures and you will find the delights of the pretty whitewashed houses and the incredible medieval walls built by the knights of St John.

The vast history of the area of Lindos speaks for itself. Inhabited for approximately 4,000 years and occupied by Italians, Turks, Romans and Byzantines, these many cultures have left their mark for all to see and experience today. Amazingly, the area was simply a small farming community by around the 1960's and was not a tourist destination until a little later.

The tourists soon realised that the history and sheer beauty of the area appealed to them and today, the resort attracts thousands of holidaymakers each year. Thankfully this has not meant an influx of high rise hotels and fast food joints, the village is extremely well controlled by the government as Lindos is classed as a Greek national monument. Incredibly, the main forms of transport are small motorbikes or donkeys which can take you to the beach or the acropolis and the village itself is pedestrianised making it a safe haven for families and those wishing to explore.

Accommodation in Lindos

Lindos really does cater for all. These can be booked in resort or booked from the UK before you travel, allowing you to budget easily.

Rhodes Town is a popular choice as it has some good sightseeing opportunities and good shopping too. There are several traditional Greek evenings that you can book, allowing you to taste the fantastic Greek cuisine, enjoy the famous Greek hospitality and of course the Greek dancing!

For full day tours you can take a variety of boat trips.
